    PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Squirrel, a young gray beauty with a shy start and a big heart ready to share. Though she may take a moment to warm up, once she does, she loves nothing more than pets and attention from her favorite people. Squirrel is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, treated for fleas/ticks/worms, and ready to find a forever home where she can feel safe and loved.

Squirrel’s favorite pastime is curling up in a snuggly spot or getting all the attention in the world - and maybe a little extra playtime once she’s feeling brave. She’s curious but calm, and would do well in a home that lets her build confidence at her own pace. Pets often need time to decompress after leaving the shelter, and may not act exactly like they did during their stay at first. The 3-3-3 rule can help - the first 3 days to adjust to new surroundings, 3 weeks to settle into a routine, and 3 months to fully feel at home. Patience and gentle care will help Squirrel blossom in her new life!

If you look closely at her picture, you might think she only has one ear, but don’t be fooled. She’s just cleverly petting herself with a shelf in her kennel, creating a perfect little optical illusion. Squirrel has two whole ears and a whole lot of love to give.

Squirrel can get a little Squirrely when pulled out of her enclosure here at the shelter, so we ask that you have an approved adoption application before taking her to a meet and greet room. This helps keep stress low for our shy friends. If you think Squirrel might be the perfect new companion, apply today at spcahancockcounty.org/adopt.
