    About Us

    The mission of the Abbe Museum, is to illuminate and advance greater understanding of and support for Wabanaki Nations’ heritage, living cultures, and homelands.

    The Abbe works closely with the Wabanaki Confederacy to share their art, history, and culture with visiting audiences. With a collection of over 50,000 archaeological, historic, and contemporary objects, the Museum's conservation program is recognized nationally as a model for museums. The Abbe holds the largest and best-documented collection of Maine Native American basketry in any museum.
