Make and Take, Pastels on Velvet paper

In this engaging two-hour workshop, students will explore the expressive possibilities of soft pastels through bold, gestural mark-making. Using the innovative Mi-Teintes Velvet paper—known for its uniquely textured surface—participants will create a dynamic landscape full of movement, color, and depth and bring home a 9 x 12 pastel painting.

This distinctive paper allows for rich layering, holding multiple applications of pigment without the need for fixative or concern about dusting. Students will experiment with building atmosphere, blending, and mark variation while gaining confidence in a more intuitive, less controlled approach to landscape drawing.

Rainey is an artist/art educator living in San Antonio, TX. She has been exhibiting work since 1995. In 2006 she established House Paint Art Studio where she teaches both oil and pastel painting.
