Beyond Seafood: Eating Out in Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor, Maine is fortunate to be home to incredibly fresh seafood, thanks to our town’s proximity to the cold, deep sea where fishermen and women haul catches of the day. But what about folks that aren’t seafood fans, or who have gotten their fill and are craving something else – what are some non-seafood or beyond-seafood restaurants in Bar Harbor? Or what about Bar Harbor visitors that have dietary restrictions or food preferences – where can you find vegetarian-friendly restaurants, gluten-free options or vegan dining in Bar Harbor? Whatever your situation, rest assured you will be satisfied by something delicious.

    Unique Flavors in Bar Harbor

Craving something outside the traditional seafood box plate? The Royal Indian offers modern Indian cuisine, flavored with seasonal ingredients. Bite into a crispy samosa pastry filled with potato and peas, or go for one of their many meat or vegetable curries. Siam Orchid offers authentic Thai cuisine in addition to sushi, plus a daily happy hour. Mexican cantina and grill, Jalapeños, delivers flavor with a variety of specialty margaritas, meat and veggie tacos, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and salads.

Small plates, big taste. That’s what Ciao Bar Harbor dishes up, featuring seasonal cuisine from near and far, like mouthwatering pork belly tacos, rich mushroom confit, and beet crostini dolloped with whipped ricotta (subject to availability). Merchant and Frye also pack in the flavor – though they have a variety of seafood on their diverse menu, you’ll also find it plentiful with other options, like house-made pastas, pizzas, salads, and more.

Sometimes you have your heart set on classic, crowd-pleasing favorites. If it’s pizza you seek, grab a pie to-go from Pat's, or combine the joy of family-friendly movies with delicious pizza at Reel Pizza. Route 66 is also a great spot for families – if the fun, nostalgic décor doesn’t already delight, the burgers, shakes and fries surely will. And finally, barbecue in Bar Harbor! It does exist.
