Dana-Farber President and CEO Emeritus Dr. Ed Benz to Keynote MDI Hospital’s Annual Meeting

Dana-Farber President and CEO Emeritus Dr. Edward J. Benz, Jr. will be the keynote speaker at Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Annual Meeting on Monday, August 6 at 5 p.m. at the Bar Harbor Club on 11 West Street in Bar Harbor. His keynote, "Cancer Research and Care in the 21st Century: Progress, Promise and Perils" will highlight current trends in cancer care and draw from his extensive background in medical oncology. Dr. Benz graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1973 and received his training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the National Institutes of Health. In addition to serving as president and CEO emeritus of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Benz is also director emeritus and principal investigator of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, a member of the Governing Board of Dana-Farber/Children's Cancer Center, a Richard and Susan Smith distinguished professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, a clinical hematologist and an active NIH-funded investigator. MDI Hospital’s 2018 Annual Meeting will also feature a summary of the past year’s accomplishments and financial performance. The organization’s new Palliative Care Program and its partnership with the Downeast Substance Treatment Network will be among the topics to be presented. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend MDI Hospital’s Annual Meeting. Social hour with, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and live jazz begins at 5 p.m. The annual meeting program, keynote and presentations begin at 6 p.m. Complimentary parking is available in the gated lot between the Bar Harbor Club and the Harborside Hotel on West Street.
