Spring Prescribed Burns Planned for Acadia National Park: (4/24/2026)

The National Park Service (NPS) is planning to conduct prescribed burns in Acadia National Park throughout the weekend of April 25, provided weather and fuel conditions are within the prescribed ranges established in the park’s prescribed fire plan. If conditions do not allow for the prescribed burns to take place as planned, NPS will complete them before May 15, 2026.

Prescribed burns are planned at the following locations:

• Jordan Pond House (lower field between the Jordan Pond House and the pond itself)
• Pooler Farm, off of Route 3 in Bar Harbor
• Flye Farm, near Route 102 in Tremont

There are no closures associated with this project. NPS expects these prescribed burns will have little to no impact on park visitors.

The purpose of these prescribed burns is to protect cultural landscapes by perpetuating open fields through the reduction of encroaching woody seedlings.

The prescribed fire program at Acadia National Park is conducted by trained and experienced federal wildland fire personnel  under carefully monitored conditions. The  NPS coordinated with local towns, jurisdictions, and fire departments in advance of these prescribed burns.

“We are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of fire personnel and the public as we manage open spaces and historic vistas in Acadia National Park,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider.
