Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an afternoon of Celtic music with The Crow’s Nest on Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Jesup Memorial Library. The Crow’s Nest features area musicians Heather MacLeod, Jeff Morgan, Chris Gray and Jim Gray. This concert is part of the Jesup’s Sundays at the Jesup Winter Concert Series.
The musicians in The Crow’s Nest met while playing Celtic music at Finnegan’s Pub in Ellsworth. They played in groups with other musicians at area gigs. During the summer of 2018, they decided to curate their own sound and became the foursome The Crow’s Nest.
MacLeod has been singing since she was a child, and as a member of the University of Maine Singers she performed in Europe, Canada and the United States. She became a Celtic musician after meeting the Grays. MacLeod also plays the penny whistle. Chris Gray is a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in playing the Great Highland Bagpipes, the Uilleann pipes, and Irish whistles in addition to being an accomplished percussionist. He spent two years in Cork, Ireland, where he received his diploma in Irish Traditional Music and his masters of arts in Ethnomusicology. Morgan is a self-taught musician who has performed on stages from northern California to Austin, Texas and from Pennsylvania to Maine. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, mandolin, mandola and English concertina. Jim Gray is a guitarist and percussionist who lives on Mount Desert Island.
The next concert in the Sundays at the Jesup Winter Concert Series is with pianist Ed Liu and bassist Basile Tarchini on Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
This concert is free and open to the public and is made possible because of a generous donor. The doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and seating is first come, first served. For more information, contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.Tell a Friend
