Learn more about snowshoe racing with Jennifer Britz, a snowshoe world champion who lives in Bar Harbor at a talk at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. Britz began snowshoe racing in 2012 and has competed in both national and international races before becoming a world champion this year.
Last March, Britz raced at the U.S. National Snowshoe Championships in Prospect, VT. There she placed 6th which earned her a spot on the U.S. women’s team and the opportunity to race at the World Snowshoe Championships. At the world championships in January, Britz finished first in the women’s 40-49 Masters category, finishing the 7-kilometer (a little over 4.3-mile) course in 40 minutes and 11.64 seconds. She now plans to race at the National Championships this March in Cable, Wis. to try out for the U.S. women’s team again.
Britz will talk about the sport which the World Snowshoe Federation says is one of the fastest growing winter sports. Britz, who is a runner and trail racer, tried snowshoe racing for the first time seven years ago after winning a free entry into a snowshoe series at Bradbury Mountain State Park, which features snowshoe running on three different courses.
If you snowshoe or run, or just want to get outdoors more join Britz for this fun talk. For more information about this talk contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.
