Raku is based on a tradition Japanese process where specially formulated clay is used to hand build objects and pots. These are then dried, glazed and fired in a small, gas-fired kiln. Pots are removed from the kiln red hot and placed in closed containers full of materials such as saw dust and leaves and allowed to smoke. ArtWaves will supply all materials for this workshop, inlcuding clay and instructions for creating objects. Raku glazes will also be available. Students can make and fire as many pieces as they can reasonably complete in 2.5 hours.
Instructors: Roberta and Alan Sprague.
