Join former Acadia National Park Superintendent Sheridan Steele as he reflects on his 38-year career in the National Park Service at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
His talk, “From Bear Dens in the Rockies to the Oval Office: My 38-year Career with the National Park Service” will feature stories from his career as a manager at seven National Parks throughout the country. He has hosted park visits with numerous dignitaries including President Obama and the First Family, the Emperor of Japan, and Pope John Paul II; and he met President Clinton during a “bill signing” ceremony in the Oval Office. Steele has extensive experience preserving natural and cultural resources and in managing park operations including visitor services, park maintenance, search and rescue, and wildlife management.
Steele retired from Acadia National Park in 2017, after serving as superintendent for twelve years. He also served at Rocky Mountain National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Fort Scott National Historic Site, and St. Croix Island International Historic Site.
