Ross Dinyari first visited Hong Kong in the 1970’s and China in the 1980’s. Over the past thirty years, he has continued to visit the area and he most recently traveled there a few months ago. Join Dinyari at the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m. for a talk and slideshow as he explores the region and how it has changed over the ensuing years.
Dinyari says, “The first time I visited China, bicycles ruled the roads and building were being built using bamboo scaffolding. The best hotels rooms were drab-looking, furnished with primitive scant furniture with a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling. The China I visit now is a model of style and luxury, from the BMWs and Mercedes to luxury hotels and restaurants with food and service surpassing the West.” Dinyari will highlight his time in Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. He will also be talking about China’s place in the world today and how it relates to the West.
For more information on the talk, contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.
