See the artwork of residents from Birch Bay Retirement Village’s specialized memory care neighborhood, Safe Harbor, as well as members of the Don & Beth Straus Adult Day Program during the month of July at the Jesup Memorial Library. The show “Art Speaks Where Words Fail,” features knitted baskets, paintings, guitars, mobiles, poetry and sun-catchers all created by residents. There will also be a special reception in honor of the artists at the library on Saturday, July 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Director, Peter Sullivan, Executive Director of Birch Bay says, “Birch Bay’s Life Enrichment program gives residents with memory impairments a chance to continue to lead purposeful lives and do meaningful activities that they enjoy. This art show is a chance to celebrate what they can do. Through the process of creating art, resident’s anxiety is lessened, so it has therapeutic benefits as well.”
“Art Speaks Where Words Fail” is part of the Age By Design series which is co-sponsored by the Jesup, Island Connections, the YWCA MDI and the Mount Desert Island YMCA.
