This summer Phoebe Durand-McDonnell and Celeste Mittelhauser, who perform as a duo called Biea Duette, traveled to the Czech Republic to study Baroque music. Join them at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. as they talk about their time in the country, show photographs, and give a small concert featuring Baroque harp and voice as they share some of the music they studied.
Durand-McDonnell, who is from Bar Harbor, began studying harp at age 10. She is now in her final year at Oberlin Conservatory where she is a harp performance major and music history minor. After finding a Baroque harp in a locked practice room at Oberlin, Durand-McDonnell became interested in Historical Performance and plans to pursue historic harp in graduate school.
Originally from Goldsboro, Maine, Mittelhauser is currently studying for her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at the University of Southern Maine’s School of Music where she is pursuing her interests in Baroque vocal techniques and early opera. In 2017, Celeste won first place in Division VI of the State NATS voice competition in Lewiston, Maine and later that year was the recipient of Schoodic Arts for All’s WOW! Award
This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.
