SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn - Learning from Lobstermen: Insights into Right Whale Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Libby Jewett is a marine biologist in charge of the national Ocean Acidification Program at NOAA. However\, she also lives part of the year in Stonington and has been coming here her whole life. Through her work on the board of the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries\, she has become more aware of the difficult issues confronting lobstermen around the issue of right whale conservation. Dr. Jewett will present on a project she led last December to interview Maine lobstermen and others associated with the Maine lobster industry to invite their perspectives and ideas on how to reduce the risks that the lobster industry poses to right whales. This forum will be another opportunity for participants to provide input into her evolving project and report.
