SUMMARY:Rediscovering the Collective Body: Improvisational Forms
DESCRIPTION:Rediscovering the Collective Body: Improvisational Forms\n\nBeginning with the proposition that we are already inherently connected\, we will use improvisational movement structures to deepen our understanding of how this connection can affect and be affected by our bodies how we interact and inform\, share and navigate space\, and create ecologies of movement.\n\nThis will be a three-hour workshop with breaks as needed\, open to all levels. Please bring a journal and writing tool.\n\nTeens and Adults\n\nSaturday\, January 15th\, 2022 from 1 to 4pm\n\n$55 ($45 for members)\n\n \n\nAbout the Instructor:\n\npam saljit\n\npronouns they/agma\n\ni am a white nonbinary transdisciplinary artist and teacher from unceded Peskotomuhkate ("Passamaquoddy") and Panewapskek ("Penobscot") land. i received my name\, which means "the one who carries [it] along" (i.e.\, taking a joke "way too far")\, from Jesse Bruchac of the Nulhegan Band of Abenakis\, and i honour it by teaching and speaking aln ba doa/Western Abenaki at every opportunity. my current research explores selfhood as nexus\, and dives into how we can cultivate a movement practice that is gentle\, sustainable\, kind\, and ecologically informed. my studies have included a wide variety of movement methods\, such as Graham Technique\, contact improvisation\, Authentic Movement\, ballet\, Gaga\, contemporary\, and circus arts/cirque nouveau. i am grateful to have learned from such considerate movers as Ishmael Houston-Jones\, Miguel Gutierrez\, Susan Sgorbati\, Kieth Hennessey\, Netta Yureshalmy\, Tommy DeFrantz\, Deborah Black\, Kathleen Hermesdorf\, Cassils\, and many others. my practice is heavily informed by chronic illness\, queerness\, and neurodivergence\, and is deeply rooted in healing through anti-colonialism and reindigenisation.\n\n \n\nhttps://artwavesmdi.org/event-4591081\n\n Dance15 Jan 2022\, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
