DESCRIPTION:It is cheaper and easier than ever to analyze your genes and to obtain information about ancestry and to help diagnose\, manage and treat genetic disorders. But with new genomic technology comes new ethical issues for individuals and societies. Join Jessica Miller\, Ph.D.\, an ethics and philosophy professor at the University of Maine and staff clinical ethicist at Eastern Maine Medical Center\, for a talk about the ethics surrounding genetic testing at the Jesup Memorial Library on Tuesday\, July 10 at 7 p.m. This talk is part of "You: A Novel Gene Story" a series of talks about personal genomics which is part of the Primary Source series\, a partnership between the Jesup Memorial Library and The Jackson Laboratory. \n\n \n\nMiller specializes in ethics\, bioethics and feminist theory. She has published several articles on the theory of trust and distrust as it pertains to her main research fields. She is also an active health care ethics consultant and educator in the community at large.
