SUMMARY:Owls of Maine with Birdsacre
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about owls in Maine with Grayson Richmond from Birdsacre during a special program at the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday\, March 7 at 2 p.m. This fun event will kick off the month-long contest to name the snowy owl mascot for the Jesup 2020 Capital Campaign. \n\n \n\nSince its debut last year\, the popular mascot - a snowy owl wearing round glasses and at times even a hat - has prompted many library patrons to ask about its name or even offer suggestions. That's why\, starting at the Saturday program through Tues.\, March 31\, everyone is invited to submit name ideas for the owl by filling out an entry sheet and adding it to a snowy owl "nest" that will be placed in the Jesup's entrance rotunda. A panel of judges will choose the winning name\, which will appear in future Jesup 2020 materials. \n\n \n\nAt the all-ages launch event\, Richmond will talk about the different owls who call Maine home and will be bringing one of Birdsacre's own residents\, a Barred Owl\, to the program. "While we'd love to have a snowy owl visit us at the Jesup too we know that they cannot adapt to the warm Maine summers and are also very shy\," said Library Director Ruth Eveland. "But the library would love to receive photos of your snowy owl sightings here on the Island!"\n\n \n\nAfter the talk\, there will be owl crafts for kids to do. \n\n \n\nThe Jesup 2020 campaign is raising funds to preserve\, protect and expand the historic Jesup library. The library recently reached its Phase Two goal of $1 million\, allowing it to perform critical exterior repairs to its 1911 building in advance of the planned expansion. This year\, the Jesup 2020 campaign will begin Phase Three fundraising to build a modern addition with a larger area for children and youth\, a community event space\, an archive\, and more. More details can be found at Jesup2020.org.\n\n \n\nFor more information about this event\, contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245.
