SUMMARY:Naturalist Illustrations: Illustrating the Seas
DESCRIPTION:This course\, suitable for all-levels\, will invite students to learn about Naturalist Illustration\, a discipline of capturing the artist's perspective in their work\, rather than strictly adhering to realism. Students will be encouraged to use their references with loose interpretation and add their own flare to their work. \n\nWe will examine important principles such as composition\, light\, movement\, and texture in both our references and our pieces. Students will have access to a wide range of mediums\, their end product will be a small-medium sized drawing\, painting\, or multimedia piece with some type of ocean-dwelling creature as its subject. \n\nStudents will also have access to photographs and books to use as reference material\, including both examples of fish and other creatures to use as reference photos and examples of naturalist illustration work to reference.\n\n\n\nMeet the Artist\n\nKailey Lewia is an ethnobotany and illustration student based in Otter Creek\, Maine\, and most interested in the connections between science\, art\, and wellness. Her work includes linocut\, gouache paintings\, and various multimedia works.
