SUMMARY:Maine Bird Atlas Talk with Rich MacDonald
DESCRIPTION:Join ornithologist Rich MacDonald to learn more about the Maine Bird Atlas and how you can become involved in this state-wide initiative at a talk at the Jesup Memorial Library on Wednesday\, May 2 at 7 p.m. MacDonald\, the coordinator of the Frenchman Bay region for the Atlas\, will speak about the history of the Atlas as well as what you need to do to be a part of the survey.\n\n \n\nThis project\, spearheaded by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife\, partners professional Maine biologists and citizen scientists to document the distribution of breeding and wintering birds across the entire state. Data collected as part of this project will provide a comprehensive understanding of the distribution and use of resources by Maine's birds and will be invaluable in guiding future species status assessments\, priority species' needs\, and identifying and conserving high value wildlife habitats. You do not have to be an expert birder to participate. MacDonald will talk about the resources available and how to report observations. \n\n \n\nMacDonald\, along with wife Natalie\, is the co-owner of The Natural History Center. A lifelong birder\, naturalist and field biologist\, MacDonald has long studied boreal birds and waterbirds\, and led bird tours throughout North America and beyond\, as well. He is a Registered Maine Guide and a Licensed Guide in New York.\n\n \n\nFor more information\, contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.
