SUMMARY:Community Farming on MDI
DESCRIPTION:Glenon Friedmann and Rose Avenia run the Bar Harbor Farm a 50-acre\, organic farm on the Gilbert Farm Road. Join Avenia at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday\, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. as she talks about how she started and continues to run a community farm on Mount Desert Island. \n\n \n\nThe Gilbert Farm is now preserved\, with agricultural and nature easements\, as farmland forever. The 15 acres of tillable soils are considered 'agricultural soils of statewide significance.' On that land and on an additional 2-acre field on Norway Drive\, the farm grows 60 varieties of MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) certified organic vegetables for restaurants\, markets and 150 households on MDI through their CSA (community supported agriculture).\n\n \n\nFor more information about the Bar Harbor Farm visit barharborfarm.net and for more information about the talk contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245 or mrice@jesuplibrary.org.
