SUMMARY:Author Talk and Book Signing: Randi Minetor "Death in Acadia: And Other Misadventures in Maine’s National Park"
DESCRIPTION:Author Randi Minetor chronicles some of the seventy-eight deaths that have occurred in Acadia National Park in her book "Death in Acadia: And Other Misadventures in Maine's National Park." Join Minetor at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday\, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. for an author talk and book signing. \n\n \n\nMore than 3.5 million people visited Acadia in 2018\; these visitors come to hike\, climb\, snowshoe\, bike and explore Maine's beautiful coastline. However\, for some of these visitors their trip can turn deadly. "Death in Acadia" gathers these stories and tells the tales of those who have underestimated the power of the ocean\, lost track of time and tides\, strayed away from a marked path or underestimated some of Acadia's more treacherous trails. Minetor writes\, "Conditions at Acadia rarely reach levels that adventurers would call 'extreme\,' yet people do find themselves in situations that are beyond their normal experience." "Death in Acadia" also features the stories of three murders that happened in and around the Park: the still-unsolved 1977 case of the death of Leslie Spellman\, the Thanksgiving shooting of Mark Reed in 1982 and the killing of Kathy Frost Larson by her new husband in 1987. \n\n \n\nMinetor is the author of more than 60 books including "Death on Mount Washington\," "Death on Katahdin\," "Death in Glacier National Park\," "Death in Zion National Park\," and more than a dozen birding and hiking guides in New England and New York State. Her most recent book was "Birding New England\," a collaboration with her husband\, photographer Nic Minetor. \n\n \n\nBooks will be on sale that night courtesy of Sherman's Books. For more information on the talk\, contact the Jesup at 207-288-4245.
