Shining through is the joy of Maine's ocean and landscape\, fascination with good boats\, dedication to conservation\, and observations about a changing world.\n\n \n\nIn his book\, Emory recounts the early history of the Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) as well as how it has evolved into the organization it is today. Emory was one of the original staff members of MCHT and served as the organizations third executive director. Emory also talks about Acadia National Park and his connections to it\, including his time on the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission. This partnership between Acadia and MCHT promoted conservation easements as a tool for preserving the scenic and natural qualities of islands near MDI which became the basis nationally heralded conservation easement program. Emory was a founding board member of the Land Trust Exchange (now Land Trust Alliance)\, which was headquartered on MDI when it first began.
