DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk with Acadia National Park Resident Artist Robert Pollien.\n\n\n\nFor the past thirty-five years Robert Pollien has been creating paintings of the Maine landscape. He began in 1984 when he first came to Maine to study at the celebrated Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Impressed by the experience\, Pollien relocated to Portland\, Maine where he began painting the shoreline of Casco Bay and teaching at the University of Southern Maine. Weary of making camping excursions to paint in Acadia\, Pollien contacted Acadia National Park to propose an Artist's Residency. The Park took up his idea and in 1993 granted Pollien the first Artist's Residency in Acadia. One year later\, he and his family would relocate to the island. Both crows and ravens figure prominently in his more recent images.\n\n\n\nPollien will recount highlights of his years of painting and teaching\, sharing with the audience the critical and practical processes that have guided his work. He will also address his relationship with and deep appreciation for crows and ravens.\n\n\n\nPollien is one of the founding instructors at ArtWaves\, in the village of Town Hill on Mount Desert Island and an adjunct associate professor at the University of Maine\, Orono. His work can be seen at Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor\, Littlefield Gallery in Winter Harbor and at the Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland Maine.
